How to patch a ROM on Steam Deck
On Steam Deck, open the patcher in a browser from desktop mode or the built-in browser, select your ROM and patch, and apply. Save the patched ROM into your EmuDeck ROMs folder, then run Steam ROM Manager to add it to your library.
Why desktop mode makes this easier
Gaming mode’s built-in browser can run the patcher, but moving the downloaded file into the right EmuDeck folder is far easier with a real file manager. Desktop mode gives you Dolphin, the KDE file manager, alongside a full browser.
Where to put the patched ROM
EmuDeck expects ROMs under an Emulation/roms directory, with one folder per system. Put a patched SNES ROM in Emulation/roms/snes, then run Steam ROM Manager so it appears in your library with artwork.
Patching files on an SD card
The browser file picker reaches the SD card the same as internal storage. Downloads default to internal storage, so move the patched file over afterwards if that is where your library lives.
Frequently asked questions
Can I patch ROMs on Steam Deck without installing anything?
Yes. The patcher runs in the browser and needs no installation. Desktop mode simply makes it easier to move the result into your EmuDeck folders.
Where does EmuDeck expect patched ROMs?
In the per-system folders under Emulation/roms, the same place as any other ROM. Run Steam ROM Manager afterwards to add it to your Steam library.
Will patching work in gaming mode?
The patcher itself works in the gaming mode browser, but you will have a harder time moving the downloaded file where it needs to go. Desktop mode is worth the switch.
